Delhi Capitals take on Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, eyeing their second consecutive win in IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals cantered to victory over Chennai Super Kings in their opening game. However, there are a few COVID-19 related-issues for the team. Anrich Nortje is in quarantine after testing positive but fellow South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who was also under quarantine, was seen practising with the rest of the squad. There is still no update from the team regarding the availability of all-rounder Axar Patel, who had tested Covid positive earlier this month.
The Delhi Capitals opener was in sparkling form for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, becoming the first player to score over 800 runs in a single edition. He carried that form into DC’s opening match against CSK, his whirlwind knock helping the team coast in the chase.
Shaw smashed 72 off just 38 balls, including nine fours and three sixes. He and opening partner Shikhar Dhawan notched a 138-run stand to blow CSK away. Shaw looks fitter, and hungry to prove a point and Rajasthan could be the next team to feel the heat.
The Delhi Capitals captain came out to bat at No.3 against CSK and didn’t even need to get out of first gear, remaining unbeaten on 15 off 12 balls. Pant was essential to India’s successes in Australia and against England at home, and comes into the IPL with a bagful of runs in all formats of the game.
There seems to be some method to the madness in Pant’s batting and this could be the year where he leaves his stamp on the IPL. Against a RR attack that lacks the firepower in the bowling department that some of the other teams have, Pant could have a field day in Mumbai.
The Englishman was absolutely brilliant with the ball against Chennai Super Kings. The right-arm pacer surprisingly didn’t get to complete his full quota of four overs but in the three overs he bowled, he gave away just 18 runs and took two wickets.
Woakes and Avesh Khan impressed with the new ball and both will be hoping to replicate their performances against Rajasthan Royals.
